Nurses Quarters

Nine mile reef is a short trip by boat from the Tweed Heads river outlet. The rocky reef here drops from 10-30 metres and is covered with numerous corals. Marine Life: In winter it is frequented by Grey nurse sharks and in summer, leopard sharks. Squadrons of bull rays can be seen cruising along the wall and giant gropers are often encountered. Eagle ray sightings are the norm. Schools of gold and brown sweet-lip have taken up residence on the reef. Lion-fish, turtles, morays, scorpion fish, nudibranchs, banner fish and very colourful wrasse are always swimming about!
